Solid Mineral Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (SOMMEDI)
Solid Minerals Machinery and Equipment Development Institute SOMMEDI, Nasarawa, is the youngest of the Ten Institutes established by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructures, NASENI. The Institute was set up through collaboration between NASENI and Nasarawa State Government.
The establishment of the Institute was articulated through an MoU on collaboration between NASENI and Nasarawa State Government signed on the 23rd day of March 2012. The MoU is for the establishment of SOMMEDI and the provision of Technical and Scientific infrastructures, as well as training and general skills development of SMEs in the State.
Development of infrastructures began in early 2013 and consequently on the 25th day of May 2019 the Honorable Minister, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, and the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Tanko Al – Makura together with the newly elected Executive Governor of Nasarawa State His Excellency Engineer Abdullahi A Sule commissioned the Institute, at Nasarawa, Nasarawa State.
